Sh’ma

The first line of this prayer is from Deuteronomy 6:4. Though it is recited aloud, the second line is traditionally recited at a near whisper. This prayer is recited while standing if we are already standing. It is recited while seated if we are already seated.

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל, יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ, יְיָ אֶחָֽד:

Sh’ma Yisrael, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad!

Hear, O Israel, Adonai is our God, Adonai is One!

בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד.

Baruch shem k’vod malchuto l’olam va-ed.

Blessed is God’s glorious majesty forever and ever!
