UPCOMING EVENTS:

Club Chesed: Celebrate Tu B’Shvat & Help our Environment

Our next event will be on Sunday, February 5. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Tu B’Shvat (the new year of the trees), plant a garden at a local Many Mansions property. We will be helping the environment and learning about Many Mansions.  Many Mansions provides low-income housing in the Conejo Valley. We will be joined by staff from Many Mansions.

This event will take place at Many Mansions and not at Temple Adat Elohim. Please bring lunch for your family and join us in the Social Hall directly after religious school to eat lunch. As soon as everyone is done (hopefully by 12:15-12:20 p.m.) we will head on over to Many Mansions. The property is very close to temple. The address and directions will be provided when you RSVP.

Please bring a few things:

  • Lunch for your family to eat right after religious school and before arriving at Many Mansions
  • Hand shovels (if you have them).  We will have some available as well.
  • Gardening gloves (not required – only if you want to use them).  We will be planting drought tolerant plants.
  • Comfy work clothes
  • Sunscreen
  • Knee pads or mat (not required – only if you want something to kneel on)

We will provide dessert and water bottles. In the event of rain, we will postpone the event.

Since this event is not being held at TAE, we must have RSVPs by January 31.  RSVP to socialaction@adatelohim.com.

We hope that you can all join us for a fun afternoon!

Chesed, (which means “kindness” in Hebrew), is a family social action group. We work to teach our children about the wonderful world of helping others through monthly, age appropriate activities. Club Chesed started at TAE in 2001. It was a recipient of the Union of Reform Judaism Fain Social Action Award recognizing exemplary social action programs.

What Is The Commitment?

Club Chesed activities are scheduled periodically throughout the year, usually on Sundays after religious school. We often meet with sack lunches or order a pizza, then jump into our event. Not every family can make every event, so we are very flexible! Some events require advance registration and fill up quickly.

What Is The Goal?

If you’ve ever heard yourself say, “My kids don’t realize how lucky they are,” join Club Chesed. By exposing your children to a wide range of social action opportunities, you teach them – not through guilt or fear but through positive action – to feel empowered to help those in need.

Is There A Cost?

There is a suggested donation of $15 per family. per event to help pay for supplies for our activities.

What Are The Activities?

Club Chesed events cover many different areas of need, from helping the homeless to socializing with the elderly to beautifying the environment. Club Chesed is parent-run and inspired, so if you have any ideas, feel free to bring them up! CLICK HERE TO VIEW A LIST OF CLUB CHESED 2022-2023 PROJECTS.
