On April 10, 2011, synagogues throughout Los Angeles will participate in a Walk for Darfur to raise funds and awareness about the genocide that has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced another 2.5 million people over the past five years in the western region of Sudan. The beautiful butterflies that were created last fall in our Sisterhood, Religious School and ECC Programs - and also displayed at our Yom HaShoah event - have been shipped off to the Houston Holocaust Museum. We were able to contribute 400 arts and craft creations for their exhibit. The exhibit will have 1.5 million butterflies from around the country to represent the 1.5 million children that perished in the holocaust.
