B’Yachad: Learning Together was developed by Temple Adat Elohim’s (TAE) RE-Imagine Committee to provide an alternative Religious School program that may better meet the needs of the Jewish families in our community.
More than 18 months was invested in creating a program under the auspices of Re-Imagine, a project of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and the Experiment in Congregational Education. TAE was one of only 7 synagogues in the Los Angeles area selected to participate.
It is an alternative to the traditional two-day a week Religious School. Families choosing to participate in B’Yachad will come together to enjoy active learning experiences with the purpose of inspiring a connection between Jewish education and modern life. Family involvement will create meaningful memories and will build community. We invite you to participate in TAE’s experiment in Jewish Education. Here are a few highlights of this program:
- Hebrew instruction one day per week on Wednesdays, 4:15-6:15p.m. This program offers an equal number of Hebrew instructional hours as the traditional two-day a week program.
- A Family Shabbat Experience once per month, Friday or Saturday. These days will be an exploration of this year’s theme, Torah, through family oriented activities. See calendar for dates.
- A Family Tikun Olam (Social Action) Program once per month on Sundays which will include off-site learning and doing of the monthly mitzvah. See calendar for dates.
- Student participation in the Regional 4th/5th or 6th/7th Grade Weekend Retreat at Camp JCA Shalom in Malibu which will take the place of that month’s Tikun Olam Program or Shabbat Experience. The fee for these retreats is included in the registration tuition. See calendar for dates.
- B’Yachad is a family experience where 4th, 5th, and 6th graders and their parents will be active participants. Family learning and Tikun Olam programs will be designed to engage parents, students and even siblings in learning together.
- Participating families will help shape the future of B’Yachad, our alternative Religious School program, by providing important feedback based on their first hand experiences throughout the year.
By choosing to register your family in B’Yachad you are agreeing to join us in this exciting experiment and helping us to explore the future of Jewish education at Temple Adat Elohim.
L' Shalom,
Marcy Goldberg
