Temple Adat Elohim Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Rabbi Ted Riter knows the significance of Temple Adat Elohim's 40th anniversary. After their escape from slavery in Egypt more than 3,000 years ago, Jews wandered the desert for 40 years before landing in Israel. "I don't want to say we were wandering for 40 years in the Conejo Valley," Riter said, "but we're looking at the Promised Land, to use a biblical metaphor. It's really an exciting time to be here."

Westlake Youth Donates Wheels to Others

Skateboarding is such a fun activity for Devin Schneider, a 13-year-old from Westlake Village, that he wants to share it with others. The Lindero Canyon Middle School eighth-grader collected skateboard decks, trucks, wheels and bearings donated by friends, family and local businesses and put together 32 skateboards with plans to donate them. Using his allowance and donations from relatives and friends, and money earned recycling plastic bottles, Devin raised another $300 for supplies needed to finish off the boards.

Deafness No Obstacle for Adat Elohim Rabbi

Agoura Hills resident Rebecca Dubowe holds the unique distinction of being the only deaf female rabbi in the world. Dubowe, 43, has served as a rabbi at Temple Adat Elohim in Thousand Oaks since 1997. She and her husband, Michael, 44, and their two daughters, Rachel, 15, and Arielle, 11, have lived in Agoura Hills for three years. “Rebecca has many gifts, and she is wonderful, well rounded rabbi,” said Rabbi Ted Riter of Temple Adat Elohim.

Temple Sends Ambulances to Israel

Rabbi Alan Greenbaum had a dream come true Sunday as the congregation donated two specially equipped ambulances to be sent to Israel. Last summer as tensions increased in Israel and violence in the region grew more frequent, Greenbaum approached the congregation with an idea to make an atypical donation.
